Dr Zhu – obtained her doctorate in Biochemistry and worked many years as a post-doctoral scientist with MIT USA in the field of host immunity and vaccine development. She continued her work in London at Imperial Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) and the Medical Research Council (MRC) before studying law at the University of Law London. She completed her articles with Clifford Chance and worked briefly for Rouse & Co International London office, a firm specialising in Intellectual property before joining Cruickshanks in 2002.
Dr Zhu is fluent in Mandarin and currently acts for Chinese corporate and private investors in their investments into UK companies, including a TV station and a golf club and since February 2019 dealing with bank account freezing cases. Combining her legal knowledge with her scientific analytical skills, she offers practical & dynamic solutions to clients’ legal issues and have achieved outstanding results.
Dr Zhu founded the UK Society of Chinese Lawyers in 2002 and is the President. She is the legal consultant to many UK organisations and has devoted many years to the advancement of Chinese education. She took on the role ofHeadmistress of London Mandarin School for 11 years and has increased student enrolmentfrom 70 to over 400 and is a long serving Executive Vice President for UK Association for the Promotion of Chinese Education. She was appointed as Member of the Order of the British Empire by the late Queen in 2018 for services to law and the Chinese community, and was awarded a MBE medal in 2019.
In February 2020 Dr Zhu has called on all people from China in the UK to self-isolate at home and avoid potential racial discrimination. In May she gave international online lecture ” How to Respond to Racial Discrimination under the Epidemic” with more than 8,000 people participatingon the day. Later she formed the International Coalition Against Racial Discrimination iCAAR and organized and participated in various anti-racism activities.
